Even though today’s candidate tracking systems are more sophisticated than ever they still have a difficult time with resumes that contain lots of formatting. This is especially important for job seekers since most of the time they’re competing against others for the same job opportunity. As the old cliche’ goes you only get one chance to make a first impression. One of most common mistakes is to include information in headers and footers in your resume. Another is extensive use of tables in the body of the resume. In both instances your resume stands a good chance of being garbled in a tracking system. My best advice is to keep formatting to a minimum and focus more on the words in your resume. Good luck in your search.
