I’ve been in recruiting for over thirty years and rarely have I seen age discrimination. What many very experienced individuals run into is the “you’re over qualified” syndrome. It would seem that companies would value getting a lot of experience for the price of a less seasoned employee but the truth they don’t. The reasons are varied but one most commonly heard is that the candidate is accepting the job simply for a paycheck and will continue to search for a position more in line with their experience. Some of my very best employees were overqualified and thankfully put all the good experience to work for me.
