I just listened to a webinar hosted by business and government leaders involved in our South Carolina’s biotech industry. One of the participants was Dr. Linda Bell, South Carolina’s state epidemiologist. She cited a case study on the impact wearing a mask can have on Covid-19 transmission. There is a beauty salon with two operators who had minor symptoms of Covid which they ignored thinking it was something else. During a two week span, while contagious, they met with 139 customers. Fortunately,in this salon it was mandatory for all to wear a mask. The transmission rate from the operators to customers was ZERO. Why?, they were all wearing masks. Dr. Bell said if we all followed this “low tech” solution to Covid we could, in four to six weeks, make a dramatic difference.
